World Book Day 2026

Our school was filled with excitement and imagination as we celebrated World Book Day 2026 with a day packed full of reading, creativity and book-inspired activities.

The day began with some phase assemblies where children proudly showed off their fantastic costumes. From classic storybook characters to modern favourites, it was wonderful to see the creativity and enthusiasm on display as pupils shared their love of reading.

Throughout the day, children took part in a range of activities designed to celebrate books and storytelling. Many classes joined in with the BBC World Book Day Live Lesson and the Great Big World Book Day Footy and Booky Quiz alongside children from schools across the country. Pupils also had the opportunity to take part in the National Book Token Competition 2026, where they created colourful and imaginative designs based on the things they love reading about. Well done to all the children who entered the competition!

Each year group based their learning on a different book, using it as inspiration for writing, art and discussion. The classrooms were buzzing with creativity as pupils produced some truly wonderful pieces of writing and beautiful artwork linked to their chosen stories.

The day ended with a special twist as teachers swapped classes and shared their favourite poems with different groups of children. This was a lovely way to finish the celebration, allowing pupils to experience a variety of poems while continuing to enjoy the magic of words.

It was a fantastic day that reminded us all how powerful stories can be. A huge well done to all the children for their enthusiasm and creativity and thank you to our families for their help putting the costumes together for the children! We are already looking forward to next year!
