Governors

Governance at Queensway School

The Governing Body at Queensway School is made up of representatives from parents, staff, the Local Authority and the wider community who work in partnership with the Senior Leadership Team of the school for the best interest of the children of Queensway.   Click here to view the individual profiles of our governors.

What do we do?

The Governors, together with the Headteacher, are responsible for the strategic direction of the school, whilst the Headteacher and her Leadership Team are responsible for the operational running of school and are accountable to the Governors.

Our core functions are:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.
  • Holding leaders to account for the educational performance of the school  and its pupils
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure money is well spent

In addition, we are responsible for making sure that the school fulfils its statuary duties and that Safeguarding is effective.

How do we carry out our duties?

We meet as a Full Governing Body 6 times a year in which we receive regular reports from the Headteacher and feedback from Governor visits. We have a Safeguarding Governor who visits the school every term to investigate aspects of safeguarding and reports to the Governing Body.  In order to carry out all our duties effectively the Governing Body has tasked two subcommittees to focus on specific areas of interest.

Resources committee

This committee oversees the financial and Health & Safety management of the school.  We work closely with the Headteacher and School Businesses Manager to ensure we budget wisely and our spending allows the implementation of our curriculum design.  We oversee personnel issues and monitor provision for staff wellbeing, which includes reviewing systems to ensure staff’s workload is manageable.

Quality of Education Committee

This committee looks at the intent, implementation and impact of the school’s curriculum.  We look in depth at the curriculum design and receive feedback from the Headteacher on the quality of teaching and learning. We monitor and challenge the leaders on the attainment and progress of all children with particular focus of any group of children vulnerable of underachieving.

In addition to these committees, we also have a Headteacher Performance Review Panel and a Pay Panel.
