Science Week 2024

Last term we held a Science Week here at Queensway and everywhere you looked the children were joining in with all things Science! The children took part in the ‘Big Science Competition’ and worked in small groups to plan and carry out their own investigations to answer big Science questions. The children used their prediction, testing and observation skills during their Science lessons and we were blown away by the enthusiasm of the children across the school.

The children also had the opportunity to participate in either a workshop or Science show. Reception and Year 1 attended a show about being an inventor, Year 2 and 3 took part in a ‘Great Fire of London’ show, Year 4 participated in a waterwheel workshop, Year 5 made marble mazes and finally, Year 6 were Forensic Scientists for the morning! Thank you to Science Oxford for delivering amazing Science sessions.

It wouldn’t be Science Week without some fluffy chicks. The children in Nursery and Reception enjoyed watching patiently as the ten eggs slowly cracked and hatched. The children from across the rest of the school also enjoyed handling the chicks and they asked some great questions.

Finally, we were extremely lucky to have been visited by a group of parents who all work within the STEM industry on Friday afternoon. The visitors shared their fascinating jobs with children in Years 4-6 and they left the children feeling very inspired. Thank you to all the volunteers who gave up their time to speak to our children.
